iSolve helps customers virtualise
iSolve Business Solutions (Pty) Ltd, a local Microsoft Gold Certified Partner, has announced that it has extended its offering in the virtualisation arena by becoming a Microsoft Hyper-V specialist company.
The Company is helping its customers reap the rewards of server consolidation and business continuity projects along with integrated management tools to manage physical and virtual resources.

Hyper-V offers customers a reliable, scalable and high-performance virtualisation platform that plugs into customers’ existing IT infrastructures and enables them to consolidate some of the most demanding workloads.

According to iSolve CEO Peter Clark, there is a strong adoption of Microsoft virtualisation software. “Now is the time for customers to get virtual with desktop and data centre virtualisation offerings from Microsoft. They are fast adopting Microsoft solutions because they have better value, they are more cost effective and they make IT operations more dynamic. Microsoft software meets customers’ needs from the desktop to the data centre in an integrated offering on the platform they know.”

By using Windows Server 2008 R2 Hyper-V to enhance virtualisation performance and host more virtual machines per physical server, customers are able to further consolidate their server environment, reduce hardware costs, save on power and cooling costs, and conserve data centre space.

“Customers have been telling us that virtualisation is a top priority, but they continue to face multiple barriers to adoption, such as costs, complex tools and limited certified virtualisation professionals. In response, iSolve decided to expand its offering by becoming a Microsoft Hyper-V specialist company, breaking down these barriers to help make virtualisation ubiquitous. We can now help customers get virtual and manage their virtual and physical assets across data centres and desktops,” he explains.

Today, virtualisation can help companies maximise the value of IT investments, decreasing the server hardware footprint, energy consumption and cost and complexity of managing IT systems while increasing the flexibility of the overall environment.

Microsoft’s strategy and investments in virtualisation helps IT professionals and developers implement Microsoft’s Dynamic IT initiative, whereby they can build systems with the flexibility and intelligence to automatically adjust to changing business conditions by aligning computing resources with strategic objectives.

Hyper-V’s scalability derives from its support for multiple processors and cores at the host level and improved memory limits at the host and guest level within virtual machines. This enables customers to scale their virtualisation environment to support a large number of virtual machines within a given host and to take advantage of quick migration for high availability across multiple hosts.

In addition, the Microsoft System Centre product family gives customers a single set of integrated tools to manage physical and virtual resources, helping customers create a more agile and dynamic data centre.

Clark says to truly see the full benefits of virtualisation, it is critical to have the right processes and tools in place. “That’s why management tools are so important, they are the glue that holds it all together and helps deliver the real benefits of virtualisation.”

SA gets second chance to solve skills shortage
iSolve Learning Solutions, a division of iSolve Business Solutions (Pty) Ltd and Microsoft ‘Worldwide Partner of the Year 2008’ for Learning Solutions, is shocked by the past matric results -- cementing the fact that no new entrants will be entering the market for the next 5 years.

As a possible solution, iSolve is encouraging current IT professionals and university graduates to harness and improve on their skills to secure their future in this skill-strapped industry.

Microsoft and Prometric have reintroduced the Microsoft ‘Second Shot’ campaign in an effort to encourage people to get certified and subsequently address the ICT skills shortage in Africa.

There is a growing concern that SA will continue to lack ICT skills for years to come, especially considering that less than 50 percent of matriculants passed mathematics and science last year. This will force companies to continue to import skills from other countries and subsequently increase the cost of doing business.

Tracy Leathem, iSolve Learning Solutions Practice Manager, says it is now time for companies to improve on the skills they already have. “In an effort to improve the ICT skills shortage, Microsoft and Prometric have reintroduced the Microsoft ‘Second Shot’ campaign. If learners write a Microsoft International exam and fail on their first attempt, their second attempt is absolutely free.”

The company’s vision is to be the leading Microsoft Technology and Softskills training service provider in Africa. Its core training methodology is ‘Applied Competence’, one that addresses a range of scholastic and technical skills.

“More importantly, iSolve Learning Solutions has a holistic approach that ensures that its students are fully competent, work oriented and can easily integrate into any given environment. This model is effective in the development of career paths and encourages lifelong learning,” she concludes.
